Artist Statement

The visual mediums that dominate our lives dematerialize our relationship with creation. Each day subscribed to the screen is a day you lose moral will, physical agency, and spiritual discernment. And yet I create, even participate, in the world of the digital image. It takes someone like me to craft the monthly flavor of smiley face managerialism or layer banal synths beneath pharmaceutical positivism. Digital art will fail to produce any lasting artifact, any wonder of the world, but that does not mean it can be ignored for it will indeed produce new sculptures of men — mostly round, mostly ugly, and bereft of courage. The irony of digital worlds is that instead of man producing images, digital images produce men. Having eliminated an incarnate Creator from our social consciousness, we now seek to create and deify ourselves. Digital worlds have succeeded in making the illusion sell. You, as I, may reject that attempt, but no matter, because the digital life is now universal, even ecumenical, so what the screens tell us about reality matters more than ever. In other words, start believing in the age of propaganda — you’re in it for the long-haul. If we want men to remember what is actually good in this world, we must at every opportunity provoke them towards the virtuous and the eternal. If you yearn to see the good, true, and beautiful embodied in man, in men, remember that evil can only distract or desecrate. The faithful artist retains the upper hand in the long run because he alone has virtuous vision rooted in gratitude to his Creator.

I am grateful for my North Carolinian inheritance. This is an earthly place worth fighting for. My trade is primarily that of a video director, but coming from the world of scrappy documentary, I double as a photographer. Because modern video involves a great deal of interview I have unexpectedly turned into a ghostwriter of sorts. Looking back on 12 years in this industry I see that one my most undervalued assets has been making even torturous responses sound prosaic. These are all critical skills for any propagandist. This personal portfolio site offers a different angle on my work and I hope opens the door to projects of a different species. If you are creatively engaged in classical education, conservation, Bitcoin, art, theology, politics, or the Church Militant, we should talk.
